INFO
Totemphonia Studio Berlin is a collection of projects dedicated to mindful listening. Here, field recordings, physical-acoustic audio visualizations, and other sound art concepts are used to explore the wondrous phenomena of the auditory world. The works presented offer an opportunity for gentle experience and sensitive reflection on acoustics and sound.
The studio was founded by Kilian Fix. His work spans various specialist areas, meaning that each project is built on a diverse range of creative perspectives: Kilian Fix is an audio engineer, sound designer, musician, and sound researcher. These activities are intrinsically intertwined and always present in his creative approach—from brainstorming and conception to execution and presentation.
According to Bernie Krause, hearing is a sensory perception that exists in an ethereal, amorphous realm. The sense of hearing is thus a formless perception that is more spiritual than physical. However, hearing provides humans with a strong and, paradoxically, physically tangible connection to their individual environment. Its uniqueness lies in its temporal immediacy and singularity. In sound, time and space are formidably intertwined.
Nature is currently the focus of Totemphonia Studio's creative work. Natural soundscapes offer an inexhaustible source of sonological diversity and inspiration. They provide gentle fascination and inner peace. Soundscapes can transport us into the world of creatures—here, the sense of hearing is perceived reverently, instead of having to be exhaustedly blocked out or drowning out one's own sonic bubble arbitrarily.
The restorative effect of natural sounds has been and continues to be scientifically proven. It provides an important counterbalance to anthropophonic cacophony, because mental and physical health can be significantly promoted by natural acoustics—if only we listen attentively.
